The opening ODI between India and England at Edgbaston delivered plenty of action on the field, but one of the biggest highlights came away from the boundary ropes. Former India captain MS Dhoni, who was present at the stadium to watch the contest, once again reminded fans why he continues to enjoy immense admiration across the cricketing world.
Nearly six years after retiring from international cricket, Dhoni remains one of the sport’s biggest crowd-pullers. As cameras panned towards him during the match, the Edgbaston crowd erupted in applause. However, it was a heartwarming interaction with a young fan in the stands that stole the spotlight and quickly went viral across social media.
The touching moment unfolded when a young child seated near Dhoni offered him some popcorn while the former India skipper was enjoying the game from the stands. Known for his humble nature, Dhoni happily accepted the gesture with a smile and thanked the youngster before enjoying a few bites. Moments later, the child once again offered him more popcorn, but this time Dhoni politely declined, gesturing that he had already had enough.
The adorable exchange immediately won over fans on social media, with many praising the legendary wicketkeeper-batter for his simplicity and kindness. The video spread rapidly online, becoming one of the most widely shared moments from the opening ODI.

On the field, India produced a clinical all-round performance to register a comfortable six-wicket victory over England and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah and the rest of the pace attack kept constant pressure on England’s batting lineup.
In reply, India chased down the target with 28 balls to spare. Despite early dismissals of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India remained in complete control for most of the chase to seal an impressive victory at Edgbaston.
