ENG vs SA 2025: Proteas name squads for multi-format tour

Cricket South Africa (CSA), in a recent development, has revealed the squad for the upcoming men's tour of England. The tour will be played in multiple white-ball formats, including three ODIs followed by as many 20-over fixtures. The T20I squad will be led by Aiden Markram, whereas, Temba Bavuma will be leading the pack in the one-dayers. Markram will be Bavuma's deputy in the three ODIs.
As a matter of fact, spinner Keshav Maharaj has been added to the T20 squad after impressing the selectors in the ongoing ODI series against Australia. Maharaj picked a match-winning five-wicket haul in the opening match, and was subsequently ranked as the No. 1 bowler in ODIs in the latest ranking updates. He will now hope to replicate these performances in the shortest format of the game as well.
“We were experimenting with the spin-bowling all-rounders in our most recent T20I series, and Keshav was always part of our broader plans. His return to the squad strengthens our spin options. Beyond his obvious skill with the ball, he brings calmness and leadership to the group,” Proteas head coach Shukri Conrad said in an official statement.
The Proteas have also stated an update regarding the injury status of their key pacer Kagiso Rabada. Notably, Rabada was ruled out of the ODIs against Australia, after the scans confirmed an injury. Although he will be travelling to the UK alongside the entire squad, his participation in the series remains under scrutiny. As a cover for the pacer, South Africa have added Kwena Maphaka in both the line-ups.
“We are hopeful that he will be available for part of the ODI series. But we are prioritizing T20I cricket and will take a conservative approach. We won't rush him back,” Conrad updated.
