England players surge in ICC rankings as Gill inches closer to Mitchell at top
England skipper Harry Brook climbed 12 places in the ICC Men's T20I Batting Rankings to enter the top 10 after dominating the five-match series against India, finishing with 229 runs at a strike rate exceeding 200 and claiming the Player of the Series award, sitting now with 734 rating points at seventh position. The emphatic display helped England dethrone India from the top of the T20I Team Rankings, ending a run of more than 1,600 days that began when India climbed to No.1 in February 2022.
Jos Buttler returned to form with a career-best 131 off 64 balls in the final T20I and moved up one spot to sixth in the batting rankings. Fast bowler Jofra Archer made the biggest jump among the bowlers, climbing eight places to joint 18th in the T20I Bowling Rankings after taking seven wickets in four matches. In the T20I batting rankings, Ishan Kishan continues to lead with 892 points while fellow India opener Abhishek Sharma remains second with 858 points.
India captain Shubman Gill moved within touching distance of the world No.1 spot in the ICC Men's ODI Batting Rankings after his unbeaten 80 against England in the opening ODI at Edgbaston earned him a 12-point gain, leaving him just 11 rating points behind top-ranked Daryl Mitchell. The India skipper struck 11 fours and a six before retiring hurt off 75 balls to set India well on track for their chase. Axar Patel delivered a Player of the Match performance with 4/62 in the first innings and 57 not out in the chase, gaining 18 places in batting to sit at 73rd and entering the top 10 of all-rounder rankings at ninth spot.
England's Joe Root earned a rise to joint 12th in the ODI Batting Rankings after scoring 76 off 76 balls, while Liam Dawson's 68 fetched him a jump of 81 places to 262nd. West Indies batter Keacy Carty entered the top 20 after scoring 113 runs in the first two games against New Zealand. Zimbabwe opener Ben Curran jumped 31 places to 34th in the batting rankings, while all-rounder Brad Evans, named Player of the Series with 111 runs and five wickets, climbed 148 places to joint 167th among batters.
