England vs India 2026: 3 batters to watch in the 1st ODI
India and England are all set to lock horns in the first ODI of the three-match series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday, July 14. After England clinched the preceding five-match T20I series, the focus now shifts to the 50-over format, where both teams will be eager to make a strong start.
The series also marks the return of several experienced campaigners, adding more excitement to an already high-profile contest. While India will be banking on their senior stars to guide the side, England will once again look towards their captain to continue his rich vein of form.
England skipper Harry Brook heads into the ODI series with plenty of confidence after a sensational outing in the recently concluded T20I series against India. The right-hander was the standout batter of the series, finishing with 229 runs in four innings at a remarkable average of 114.50 and an explosive strike rate of 214.02. He also smashed 17 fours and 15 sixes during the five-match contest.
Although the ODI format presents a different challenge, Brook's current form makes him England's biggest batting threat. As captain, he will not only be expected to lead from the front but also anchor the innings if early wickets fall. India will be aware that dismissing Brook cheaply could significantly improve their chances of winning the opening match.
