England Women and New Zealand Women have travelled to the beautiful city of Canterbury in Kent for their second T20I on Saturday, May 23. The hosts come into the game on the back of winning the first of three games in this series by seven wickets in Derby.
England have a chance to seal the series with a win in Canterbury. Alice Capsey was the star of the show, scoring an unbeaten 74 to guide her side to a win with 17 balls to spare.
Like with the ODI series, New Zealand are once again chasing to level or win the trophy. The visitors will want a win to boost their morale ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup and end their eight-match losing streak against England.
The pitch at the St. Lawrence Ground tends to prefer the side which is chasing in the second innings. The ground has seen three Women’s T20Is, with the last two games being won by the side batting second. This includes England's 2024 win against the White Ferns by six wickets.
The weather in Canterbury is expected to remain bright and sunny during the game, which, in theory, should make batting a little easier with fast bowlers not finding early swing with the new ball.
Sophia Dunkley, Alice Capsey, Maia Bouchier, Heather Knight, Freya Kemp, Danielle Gibson, Amy Jones (WK), Charlie Dean (C), Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith, Lauren Bell
Georgia Plimmer, Suzie Bates, Isabella Gaze (WK), Amelia Kerr (C), Sophie Devine, Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Izzy Sharp, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Bree Illing
Across formats, Alice Capsey has been in excellent form with the bat. Apart from her unbeaten 74 in the first T20I, the right-handed batter also hit 45 during the third ODI in Cardiff, which England lost. The 21-year-old also scored a half-century whilst representing Surrey against Somerset in the Metro Bank One Day Cup before the start of the white-ball series against the Kiwis.
Lauren Bell has been England’s best bowler in the handful of matches they have played during their home summer. She ended the ODI series against New Zealand with five wickets from two matches. The right-arm pacer also picked up two wickets in the first T20I, which included the scalp of Georgia Plimmer on the first ball of the match.
