'Every point is going to be crucial' - Haseeb Hameed ready for Notts' home clash against Leicestershire

Nottinghamshire prepare for a County Championship Division One encounter against Leicestershire at Trent Bridge from September 2 to 5, 2026, with the defending champions looking to maintain their position at the top of the table. “Every point is going to be crucial. The table's tight, and we're looking forward to coming back home this week. We've been away for a decent period of time now, so the boys are really excited to be back at home. It's an important game with local rivals, but we know we've got to focus on what we need to do, which is come here and put our best foot forward, and the boys are excited to do that,” said Hameed to Trent Bridge.

Olly Stone and Joe Clarke were the standout performers as Nottinghamshire secured two batting points and three bowling points from their rain-affected County Championship clash against Warwickshire at Edgbaston. However, captain Haseeb Hameed was quick to spread the praise across the entire team.

“I thought during the time that we were on the field, we were brilliant as a team. I think the way the boys batted on the first day of play was outstanding – and obviously Joe was the standout with an incredible 150. Then the job the boys did with the ball on the last day was incredible. Stoney stood out with his five-fer, but all the boys chipped in and bowled beautifully,” said Hameed.

Fraser Sheat impressed with both bat and ball in his First-Class debut for Nottinghamshire against Warwickshire, scoring an unbeaten 45 and returning figures of 1/49. His all-round contribution earned high praise from captain Haseeb Hameed.

“I thought it was a really important partnership for us towards the back end of that day with him and Joe, and he played really nicely. Then with the ball, he bowled nicely as well. I think he bowled much better than his figures suggested, and he could have walked away with a few more wickets. But if he keeps bowling like that, I think he will,” said Hameed.

With less than two days’ worth of play possible during the Warwickshire fixture, Haseeb Hameed believes his Nottinghamshire side are both physically and mentally fresh for the challenge posed by Leicestershire this week.

“Rest is important, but I think the fact that we only played two out of the four days gave us an actual break as well. I expect the boys to be fresh and ready to go this week. They have been putting their feet up and making sure they get their recovery, but they'll be ready to go tomorrow," said Hameed.
