India delivered a dominant performance in the first Test against West Indies at Ahmedabad, clinching an innings and 140-run victory. After a stellar display with the bat, India piled up 448/5d in their first innings, with notable contributions from KL Rahul (100), Dhruv Jurel (125) and Ravindra Jadeja (104 not out). The West Indies’ resistance crumbled as they were bowled out for just 162 in the first innings and 146 in the second, despite a few fightbacks from Alick Athanaze and Justin Greaves. India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Jadeja, put on a clinical display, with Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav picking up key wickets in the second innings.

India’s response to West Indies’ first-innings total of 162 was nothing short of impressive. With an opening partnership steadying the ship and Jurel, Rahul and Jadeja showcasing their batting prowess, India declared at 448/5d. Jurel’s debut century (125) stood out as the highlight of the innings, with his poise and aggression marking a memorable performance. Rahul’s composed 100 and Jadeja’s 104 not out further piled on the pressure, ensuring the West Indies were left with an overwhelming task. Despite a few early wickets falling on Day 2, India’s batting dominance ensured they were in control throughout the game, with their steady run rate putting the visitors on the back foot. The Indian top order produced a remarkable show, while the tail contributed valuable runs to provide a mammoth total.

West Indies’ response in both innings was lackluster, as they struggled to build partnerships. In the first innings, their top order was decimated by Siraj and Bumrah, with the duo claiming four wickets. Shai Hope and Roston Chase did try to steady the ship but couldn’t survive long enough to make a meaningful impact. In the second innings, a more determined effort by Athanaze (38) was overshadowed by the destructive performances of Jadeja and Siraj. West Indies could only manage 146, with Jadeja picking up 4 wickets and Kuldeep’s spin causing further chaos.

Their batting order was rattled repeatedly by India’s pace and spin attack, failing to muster any significant partnerships. Despite a solid opening spell from Jayden Seales in the second innings, the task was far too difficult as India completed a dominant victory. The West Indies’ batting frailties were exposed, and they were left ruing their missed opportunities.

Ravindra Jadeja is Mr Evergreen of Indian cricket. Players come, players go but he has a permanent presence. No. 1 all-rounder in Test but still he doesn't get the due he deserves.. sometimes goes under the radar. Turning pitches , seaming pitches, home or away Jadeja finds ways…

The toss was the only thing that went West Indies’ way this Test. After that, it was all one-way traffic. India dominated with bat, ball, and in the field. A clinical performance all around. Well played @BCCI 👏🏻#INDvWI

West Indies really shouldn’t be playing away tests to India lol. That’s wild

The longer the game, the more obvious the difference in class between teams.

Jadeja since 2023 1467 runs @ 43.1 avg86 wkts @ 26.6 avg

No batter who has scored as much runs as Jadeja has taken even half the wkts he has taken

No bowler who has picked as many wickets as him has scored even half the runs he has scored

The second test should be abandoned. This was always going to be a no-contest and its beyond appalling to see Windies like this, time and again, just making the numbers. #INDvWI

No disrespect but India should host teams like Afghanistan and Ireland in Tests rather hosting least interested, less passionate and almost below par skilled team West Indies. Forget about contest, there’s not even a spark you could see in them !#INDvWI

A lot of teams around the world would have had the same results as West Indies playing three Tests against Australia on spicy pitches followed by this Test against India. Brutal assignments to get through, back to back.
