Fans erupt as clinical Nepal thrash West Indies in 2nd T20I to clinch historic series win

Nepal etched their name in cricketing history with a landmark T20I series win against West Indies, overpowering the former world champions by 90 runs in the second match at Sharjah on Monday (September 29). Having taken the lead earlier in the series, the Himalayan side showed composure and dominance in both batting and bowling to register a clean sweep, their first-ever bilateral series victory against a full-member team.
Choosing to bat first on a pitch that offered some early assistance to spinners, Nepal had a shaky beginning. Akeal Hosein made an immediate impact by dismissing opener Kushal Bhurtel and then castling captain Rohit Paudel in successive overs. At 16/2 in the fourth over, Nepal were staring at a collapse.
However, wicketkeeper-batter Aasif Sheikh took charge with positive intent, counterattacking through crisp drives and lofted shots to steady the innings. He found able company in Sundeep Jora, and the duo transformed Nepal’s fortunes with a century partnership. Jora’s fearless strokeplay, highlighted by clean sixes off Fabian Allen and Navin Bdaisee, brought momentum back to the innings. Sheikh anchored at one end while Jora’s aggression dismantled West Indies’ bowling plans.
Both batters reached their half-centuries, sending the Sharjah crowd into raptures. Jora’s explosive 63 and Sheikh’s unbeaten 68 guided Nepal to an imposing 173/6 at the end of 20 overs—an exceptional recovery after early setbacks.
Chasing 174, West Indies were immediately put on the defensive by disciplined Nepalese bowling. The first two overs yielded only three runs, and Jewel Andrew’s dismissal to Mohammad Adil Alam triggered a collapse. Within the powerplay, West Indies were tottering at 7/2, their star-studded lineup failing to withstand the relentless pressure.
Alam proved unplayable in the middle overs, removing key batters and finishing with outstanding figures of 4/24. Jason Holder briefly attempted resistance with two towering sixes, but his dismissal extinguished any hopes of a fightback. Bhurtel added to the misery by scalping Allen and Hosein in the same over, reducing the Caribbean side to 74/7.
From there, it was a mere formality as Nepal’s bowlers wrapped up the innings in 17.1 overs. West Indies managed only 83 runs, marking their lowest-ever T20I total against an Associate nation.

The emphatic 90-run victory not only sealed the series 2-0 but also carved multiple records in Nepal’s favor. It was the biggest win by runs for an Associate against a full-member nation in T20Is. Sheikh and Jora’s century stand laid the foundation, while Alam and Bhurtel’s combined seven wickets ensured West Indies had no way back into the contest.
Wow moment! Did anyone think a day would come when Nepal would win a cricket series against the West Indies? Miracles do happen but this is by far the ultimate fairy tale story. Well done Nepal 🇳🇵👍👍⭐️

I won't be able to find the right words to get across the enormity of what this will mean to Nepal 🇳🇵
But in the rather strange & cynical World we live in right now, maybe the greatest antidote is the sheer unabated joy of Nepal's heroic team and their historic achievement 🙏❤️
