India A produced a dominant all-round performance to defeat Sri Lanka A by 66 runs in the final of the tri-series in Dambulla. While several players contributed to the victory, the match will be remembered for one extraordinary innings from teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who shattered records with a breathtaking assault at the top of the order.
Coming into the final after a mixed run of scores during the tournament, Suryavanshi answered his critics in spectacular fashion. The young batter unleashed a relentless attack on the Sri Lankan bowlers and set the tone for India A’s massive total of 377/9. His innings left fans and experts stunned, with social media erupting as records tumbled in front of their eyes.
Opening the batting, Suryavanshi wasted no time asserting himself. He began by sending each of the first five balls he faced to the boundary before racing to the fastest fifty in List A cricket history, reaching the landmark in just 11 deliveries. The left-hander looked unstoppable throughout his stay at the crease. Whether it was lofted drives over extra cover, powerful pulls against short deliveries, or inventive ramps over the wicketkeeper, Suryavanshi showcased a remarkable range of strokes. His fearless approach completely dismantled Sri Lanka A’s bowling plans as India A stormed to 132 runs in only 8.5 overs.
Suryavanshi eventually fell for a sensational 94 off just 29 deliveries, smashing 10 fours and eight sixes at an astonishing strike rate of over 324. He narrowly missed out on what would have been one of the fastest centuries in List A history, but by the time he departed, the damage had already been done. After his dismissal, Tilak Varma steadied the innings with a composed 67, while Ruturaj Gaikwad added 40. Anukul Roy then provided the finishing flourish with a blistering 39 off 15 balls as India A posted a formidable 377/9.
Chasing a daunting target, Sri Lanka A needed a strong start but lost wickets regularly against a disciplined Indian bowling attack. Yash Thakur struck crucial blows at the top, removing Niroshan Dickwella, Avishka Fernando and Nuwanidu Fernando to put the hosts under pressure. Sadeera Samarawickrama attempted to keep Sri Lanka A in the contest with a brisk 52, while captain Wanuja Sahan top-scored with 62. However, India A continued to chip away with wickets at regular intervals.
Anukul complemented his batting heroics by claiming two vital wickets, including the dismissal of the dangerous Vijaykanth Viyaskanth. Vipraj Nigam and Thakur finished with three wickets apiece as Sri Lanka A were eventually bowled out for 311 in the 48th over. The emphatic victory secured the tri-series title for India A and sparked widespread reactions online, with fans hailing Suryavanshi’s remarkable knock as one of the greatest innings ever played in List A cricket.

Just realised Vaibhav looks at 50 overs cricket as a format where he can create even more mayhem! What with 2 fielders outside the circle for 10 overs! & not 6. 😳👏👏👏#SonySports
