A packed Ekana Stadium in Lucknow witnessed absolute carnage on Friday, as the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) hosted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 59th match of IPL 2026. In a high-stakes encounter that had fans on the edge of their seats, LSG pulled off a commanding 7-wicket victory with a staggering 20 balls to spare. While the match promised a tight tactical battle, it quickly turned into a one-sided masterclass courtesy of a jaw-dropping batting display that left the CSK bowling unit completely shell-shocked.
Opting to bat first, the Chennai Super Kings weathered an early storm to post a competitive total of 187/5 in their allotted 20 overs. LSG’s opening bowler Akash Singh wreaked havoc during the Powerplay, dismantling CSK’s top order by dismissing captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (13) and Sanju Samson (20) early, before returning to remove Urvil Patel (6). Akash ended his brilliant spell with exceptional figures of 3/26, while the fiery Mayank Yadav choked the run flow with an equally economical 0/26.
With CSK reeling at 52/3 in the eighth over, Kartik Sharma and Dewald Brevis engineered a crucial rescue mission. Kartik anchored the innings beautifully, smashing a brilliant 71 off 42 balls, studded with 6 boundaries and 5 towering sixes. Brevis contributed a quickfire 25 off 16 balls before falling to Mohammed Shami.
Towards the death overs, Shivam Dube provided the final flourish, blasting an unbeaten 32 off just 16 deliveries at a strike rate of 200.00. Alongside Prashant Veer (13*), Dube capitalized on a late slow over-rate penalty imposed on LSG, helping Chennai breach the 180-run mark despite a highly disciplined performance from Lucknow’s frontline pace battery.
Chasing a target of 188, the Lucknow Super Giants completely threw the manual out the window. Australian powerhouse Mitchell Marsh stepped onto the crease like a man possessed, launching a relentless assault from the very first ball. Marsh, alongside impact sub Josh Inglis (36 off 32 balls), completely tore apart the CSK bowling line-up, bringing up the team’s 50-run mark in a mere 4.2 overs.
Marsh reached his own half-century in just 21 balls, driving the home crowd into a frenzy. The duo stitched together a phenomenal 135-run opening partnership in less than 12 overs. By the time Marsh was unluckily run out by Mukesh Choudhary, he had hammered an astonishing 90 runs off just 38 balls, boasting a massive strike rate of 236.84, including 9 fours and 7 monstrous sixes.
Though CSK managed a brief triple-wicket breakthrough, with Mukesh and Spencer Johnson removing Inglis and Abdul Samad in quick succession, the damage was already done. Nicholas Pooran stepped in to ensure there were no late hiccups, effortlessly guiding LSG home with a brutal, unbeaten 32 off 17 balls. Backed by Mukul Choudhary (13*), LSG comfortably crossed the finish line at 188/3 in just 16.4 overs, securing an unforgettable and dominant victory.

Mitchell Marsh was in such ridiculous touch that bowlers gave up completely 😭
Only way to dismiss him was… accidentally run him out.

Mitchell Marsh just obliterated the CSK bowling attack with 90 off 38 balls. Hitting 7 sixes and 9 fours means he scored 78 runs purely in boundaries. Striking at 236.84 at the top of the order single-handedly killed a 188-run chase inside the powerplay and middle overs
