India continued their dominant run against Afghanistan with a comprehensive 170-run victory in the second ODI, securing the three-match series with a game to spare. Playing in sweltering conditions, the hosts produced a complete performance with both bat and ball, led by magnificent centuries from Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan before the bowlers wrapped up the contest comfortably. The convincing triumph generated a huge buzz on social media, with fans showering praise on Gill’s captaincy, Kishan’s explosive return to form, and the impressive performances of young pacers Gurnoor Brar and Prince Yadav.
After losing Yashasvi Jaiswal early, India quickly regained control through a breathtaking partnership between Gill and Kishan. The duo stitched together a stunning 224-run stand for the third wicket, putting Afghanistan’s bowling attack under relentless pressure. The Indian skipper reached his century in just 77 deliveries and continued to accelerate, eventually scoring a magnificent 154 off 112 balls.
At the other end, Kishan initially took his time before unleashing an assault on the Afghan bowlers. The wicketkeeper-batter raced from fifty to a century in only 19 deliveries, finishing with a blistering 125 off 71 balls. For a large part of the innings, India looked set to cross the 450-run mark. However, Afghanistan fought back admirably in the closing stages. Nangeyalia Kharote emerged as the standout performer with figures of 4 for 76, while Rashid Khan claimed three wickets to help restrict India to 402.
Chasing a daunting target, Afghanistan never truly threatened. Rahmanullah Gurbaz provided an aggressive start with 41, while Rahmat Shah battled hard for a gritty 79. However, the required rate kept climbing, and wickets fell at regular intervals. India’s bowling attack maintained complete control throughout the chase. Arshdeep Singh struck crucial blows in the top and middle order, while Gurnoor impressed with his pace and bounce to claim three wickets. Debutant Prince Yadav also enjoyed a memorable outing, picking up two wickets as Afghanistan were eventually bowled out for 232.
While Gill and Kishan grabbed the headlines, India’s bowling unit ensured there was no way back for Afghanistan. Gurnoor consistently troubled the batters with sharp pace, while Arshdeep mixed his variations effectively to finish with three wickets. The visitors struggled to build momentum during the chase, facing 148 dot balls compared to India’s 110.
The difference in intent and execution between the two batting lineups ultimately proved decisive as India cruised to one of their most comprehensive ODI victories in recent times. Gill was deservedly named Player of the Match for his magnificent 154, while India’s dominant display ensured they took an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the series.
