Fans react as Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul’s centuries headline India’s dominance over West Indies on Day 2 of 1st Test

India tightened their grip on the first Test against West Indies as centuries from India’s star batters and all-rounder powered them to a commanding 448/5 at stumps on Day 2. With a 286-run lead on the board, the hosts are firmly in the driver’s seat, leaving an inexperienced West Indies side with a daunting challenge ahead.
Day 2 at the 1st Test was all about India’s batting brilliance. The morning began with Shubman Gill and KL Rahul resuming the innings. Gill, who looked fluent, reached a well-made fifty but failed to convert it into a bigger score, falling soon after. His dismissal didn’t deter Rahul, who looked determined to anchor the innings.
Rahul went on to score his 11th Test century, his second against West Indies and first at home since 2016, ending a long wait for a three-figure score on Indian soil. His knock steadied India in the first session before he was eventually dismissed, but the platform had been set.
With Rahul back in the pavilion, the momentum shifted towards India’s middle order. Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel grabbed the spotlight with a remarkable innings of 125. Displaying maturity beyond his years, Jurel mixed patience with aggression, punishing loose deliveries while keeping the scoreboard ticking. His hundred, a maiden one in Test cricket, was greeted with thunderous applause from the crowd.
At the other end, Ravindra Jadeja played his role to perfection. Known for his resilience, Jadeja blended composure with classy stroke play to notch up an unbeaten 104. His century further underlined India’s depth and ensured that the West Indies bowlers were kept at bay throughout the day.
The partnership between Jurel and Jadeja not only frustrated the visitors but also cemented India’s dominance. By the time stumps were drawn, the duo had guided India into a commanding position that looks match-defining.

The West Indies bowling attack had brief moments of discipline, creating occasional chances and drying up runs in patches. However, they struggled to sustain pressure for long periods. With the pitch flattening out and Indian batters making full use of the conditions, the visitors were left searching for breakthroughs.
The biggest challenge now lies ahead for the Caribbean side. Trailing by 286 runs on a surface already showing signs of assisting spinners, their batting will be put under stern examination on Day 3. With India’s bowlers raring to go, West Indies will need to summon immense grit to avoid falling behind further.
As things stand, India are in complete control. A declaration sometime on Day 3 could be on the cards, giving their bowlers ample time to dismantle the West Indies batting line-up. For the visitors, survival will be the first priority before thinking of making a contest out of it.
