Georgia Voll comforts Sophie Ecclestone after England's heartbreak at Women's T20 World Cup 2026 final
Australia beat England by seven wickets in the final of the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup at Lord's, clinching their record seventh title.
In a heartwarming moment after the game, Australian opener Georgia Voll was seen consoling England left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, with the latter looking visibly distraught after the game. Voll had her arm around Ecclestone and was visibly comforting her with the pair seated outside the boundary rope. The pair have met in multiple competitions around the world, across the international calendar and franchise circuits. They have also played together for the UP Warriorz in the 2025 edition of the Women's Premier League.

Speaking of the match, the Englishwomen, who were put into bat first, scored a respectable 150 for 4 in their 20 overs. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scored with an unbeaten 53-ball 58, and Freya Kemp scored an unbeaten 28-ball 44 to take the Three Lionesses to 150 for the loss of four wickets amidst tight bowling from the Aussies.
Australia made light work of the chase, reaching home with 17 balls to spare. Beth Mooney scored a 49-ball 64 and was supported by Phoebe Litchfield, who scored a 35-ball 48. Mooney was adjudged the player of the match and the tournament with 283 runs throughout the competition.
Ecclestone and Voll were both unable to impact the match in ways they would have desired. The England spinner bowled 3.1 overs to finish with figures of 1 for 24 and picked up the wicket of Mooney, but it was all too late. Voll scored just nine runs, falling in the second over to Lauren Bell. She scored 130 runs in seven games across the tournament, striking at 141.30 with a highest score of 45 not out. She took the gloves against the Netherlands after Mooney went off the field with a back issue. Ecclestone was the joint third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament with ten wickets in seven games at an economy rate of 6.00.
