'Good for nothing' - Danish Kaneria blasts PCB over England series loss

Pakistan's Test series in England ended in disappointment after the team suffered a 194-run defeat in the second Test at Lord's on August 31, 2026. The loss handed England an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Pakistan was dismissed for just 110 in their first innings before being set a target of 389 in the second innings. Chasing that total, Pakistan managed only 194, with Saud Shakeel top-scoring with 97.

The heavy defeat has drawn sharp criticism from former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria, who has questioned the team's selection process and the overall structure of domestic cricket in the country. Kaneria expressed his frustration at what he views as a systemic failure within Pakistan cricket, pointing to deeper problems that extend beyond the immediate performance on the field.

"It's a shame that after 70 years, Pakistan has gone through such a disaster. There is no logic, selection committee, or play. They are just good for nothing. You see, such a bad performance." Kaneria was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

"If a person loses, he tries and fights before losing. The fight has to be visible. Here, there’s no fight. No one knows anything," he added.

Kaneria's criticism extended to the bowling attack, where he questioned the credentials of players selected for the squad. He expressed particular concern about the performance standards expected at international level and the lack of basic bowling skills on display.

"And the bowling attack is pathetic. Who is Muhammad Shahzad? Where did he come from? He doesn’t have any line or length. No swing, no reverse swing. Nothing," Kaneria added.

The former spinner also targeted the performance of established players, suggesting that even senior batsmen were failing to deliver under pressure. He highlighted concerns about the team's approach and selection decisions that kept certain players in the squad despite poor returns.

"Like a player of the calibre of Babar Azam is getting out like this. This is pathetic. And then you are keeping Rizwan for so long. I don't know what he is doing. Why is he even there?" Kaneria concluded.

Pakistan will face England in the third and final Test of the 2026 series at Edgbaston, Birmingham, from September 9. England have already sealed the series 2-0 after comprehensive wins at Headingley and Lord’s.
