Gujarat Giants (GG) have suffered a significant setback in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 after pace bowler Titas Sadhu was ruled out of the tournament due to injury. The franchise confirmed that the right-arm seamer will not feature in any matches this season, although the exact nature of her injury has not been disclosed.
Sadhu was yet to make an appearance for the Giants in WPL 2026, continuing a frustrating run of injury-related interruptions. Over the previous three seasons, she has managed just seven appearances in the league, despite being regarded as one of the most promising young fast bowlers in Indian women’s cricket. Her absence also reflects a longer layoff from international action, with her last outing for India coming in an ODI series more than a year ago. For Gujarat, the loss of Sadhu reduces their pace-bowling depth at a crucial stage of the competition.
To cover for Sadhu’s absence, the Giants have drafted in Jintimani Kalita for the remainder of the season. The all-rounder, who bats left-handed and bowls right-arm medium pace, joins the squad for a reported fee of INR 10 lakh. Kalita brings valuable WPL experience, having previously represented Mumbai Indians Women across two title-winning campaigns.
During her stint with Mumbai, Kalita featured in 13 matches over the 2023 and 2025 seasons, contributing as a reliable squad player who offered balance with both bat and ball. While she may not be a like-for-like replacement for an out-and-out quick like Sadhu, Kalita’s versatility gives Gujarat additional options in team combination and workload management. Her familiarity with high-pressure matches could prove useful as the Giants look to stabilise their campaign.

Gujarat Giants’ WPL 2026 journey has been a story of contrasting phases. After five matches, the team finds itself at the bottom of the points table with two wins and three losses. Their campaign began on a positive note, registering consecutive victories against UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals, performances that hinted at a strong season ahead.
However, momentum quickly slipped as the Giants endured three straight defeats. They were outplayed by Mumbai Indians by seven wickets, before suffering back-to-back losses against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, going down by 32 runs and then by a heavy margin of 61 runs. These results exposed inconsistencies in both batting and bowling, leaving the side searching for answers.
