After years of heartbreak and near-misses, Royal Challengers Bengaluru finally etched their name in history by winning their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2025. In a high-octane final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, RCB defeated Punjab Kings by six runs to end an 18-year-long wait.
Batting first, they posted a competitive total of 190/9, thanks to crucial knocks from Virat Kohli and late fireworks by Romario Shepherd. Despite a strong start, Punjab faltered in the chase, with RCB’s bowlers delivering under immense pressure. Krunal Pandya’s match-winning spell turned the game in RCB’s favour, earning him the Player of the Match award. Emotions ran high as Kohli broke down in tears and celebrated the title with his teammates and fans. The victory sparked scenes of unfiltered joy across the RCB camp, marking the end of a legendary drought in style.
As Bengaluru RCB lifted their maiden IPL trophy after 18 years of wait and near-misses, the celebration was not just limited to the dressing room. The final against Punjab ended in a thrilling 6-run win, sparking jubilation, relief, and tears across fans, players, and cricketing circles. Amidst the euphoric scenes, one of the most poignant moments came not on the field, but in a touching emotional exchange between Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya.
Hardik, the captain of Mumbai Indians, was, as wrote by himself, was in tears as he watched his brother Krunal now an RCB star, lift the IPL trophy. He took to Instagram with a heartfelt note:
“In tears right now. Proud of you bhai.”

RCB’s total of 190/9 seemed slightly below par at the high-scoring Narendra Modi Stadium. But their bowlers, led by Krunal’s sensational spell of 2/17 in his four overs, flipped the script in the second innings. Introduced just after the powerplay, Krunal dismissed Prabhsimran Singh and Josh Inglis, shifting momentum squarely in RCB’s favor. His tight bowling choked Punjab’s middle-order, making it one of the most defining spells of the night. Speaking after the game, a visibly elated Krunal Pandya shared a special conversation he had with his younger brother before the final:
‘I told Hardik that the Pandya household will have nine trophies in 11 years. We’ve both worked incredibly hard, and to contribute on a night like this means the world to me,’
The quote captured the confidence, determination, and close-knit spirit between the brothers. While Hardik had previously guided MI to multiple IPL titles, it was Krunal’s time to shine in red and gold.
