Harry Brook, Jacob Bethell get stern warnings for misconduct in Wellington nightclub

England white-ball captain Harry Brook, along with teammate Jacob Bethell, have escaped with a slap on their wrist for the nightclub incident in Wellington during England’s white-ball tour to New Zealand towards the backend of 2025.

During their ODI series against the Black Caps in October, Brook had a confrontation with a nightclub bouncer in New Zealand’s capital city. The skipper misrepresented the situation at hand by first claiming he was alone to protect his teammates. The matter was later investigated by the Cricket Regulator, who have let Brook and Bethell escape with warnings over their off-field conduct.

“As a consequence of those investigations, the Regulator has issued a caution notice to Harry Brook and Jacob Bethell in relation to their conduct during that night. No further action is to be taken by the Regulator in relation to Josh Tongue,” the Cricket Regulator said.

The nightclub fiasco caught a lot of attention from fans and media alike, questioning England’s conduct outside the cricket field. The incident took place right before the Three Lions’ third ODI against New Zealand, which they lost and therefore suffered a 3-0 series defeat.

Following England’s disappointing Ashes series, where they lost 4-1 to arch-rivals Australia, Brook was fined GBP 30,000 and was given a final warning by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), with the skipper issuing a public apology for his behaviour.

England’s behaviour has raised a lot of question marks in recent months. Apart from the incident in Wellington, reports emerged of the Test players drinking excessively in Noosa, Queensland, in the middle of the Ashes series.

Despite all the noise coming from the camp, England did have a decent end to their winter. The Brook-led side won two white-ball series in Sri Lanka before reaching the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup, where they narrowly lost to eventual champions India. Chasing a daunting 254, England lost by just seven runs, thanks to Bethell’s 105 off just 48 balls.

Bethell is currently with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) squad as he plays in his second Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
