The 58th match of IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, was called off without a ball being bowled due to persistent rain in the host city. The weather played spoilsport throughout the evening and did not even allow for the coin toss to take place.
In the end, both the teams shared one point each with the no result game. After the result of the match, RCB moved to the top of the points table with 17 points and significantly boosted their chances of qualifying for the playoffs. On the other hand, the washout provided the end of the season for KKR, who have 12 points and are officially out of the playoff race.
KKR becomes the fourth team to be eliminated from IPL 2025, with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Rajasthan Royals (RR), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) are the three teams which have been eliminated already.
The race for the playoffs is on high because the results of the upcoming matches will be crucial in determining RCB’s playoffs qualification chances, since they are yet to confirm their top-four finish despite getting to 17 points after the Match 58 was abandoned. The Bengaluru-based side will now be closely watching the double-header on May 18, where Rajasthan Royals (RR) take on Punjab Kings (PBKS), and Delhi Capitals (DC) face Gujarat Titans (GT). If either PBKS or DC lose their respective matches, RCB will secure a spot in the playoffs.
Rajat Patidar-led side displayed a consistent form this season and will be hoping the results go in their way to confirm their qualification. The IPL 2025 resumed today after a 10-day pause due to cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. But, the first fixture following the resumption being washed out without play was a disappointment for fans.
The final leg of the tournament is underway and the playoff picture remains intense with six teams fighting for the top four spot.
