‘He can even concede four sixes in an over’ – Former India star questions Shivam Dube’s bowling in T20 World Cup 2026

Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has raised concerns over Shivam Dube’s bowling and his role as an all-rounder during the ongoing ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, stating that his overs could prove costly for Team India in high-pressure situations.
While Dube has been primarily included in the side for his power-hitting ability, his bowling has come under scrutiny. Kaif pointed out the risks involved in handing him the ball in crucial phases of a T20 match, citing that it could cost the Indian team dearly.
"With the field and his plan to bowl wide to Brevis, Dube showed that he wanted to be very defensive. Nobody bowls defensively in the 10th over. You looked to attack and try to take a wicket at that time. According to me, Dube is a batter; he is not an all-rounder,” Kaif said on his YouTube channel.
"We don't need an all-rounder who bowls at 120 kph. He might take an odd wicket but will always go for runs. He can even concede four sixes in an over against West Indies," he concluded.
Kaif’s remark reflects concerns about Dube’s lack of consistency with the ball. The Mumbai-born had a decent outing with the bat against Proteas, scoring 42 runs, but it was not the same case when it comes to the bowling. He was taken to the cleaners by the South African batters, as he conceded 32 runs in just two overs while picking up a wicket.
The Men in Blue have used him as a sixth bowling option in this tournament, and it has yielded mixed results so far. In three innings, he has picked up four wickets with the ball, but has a poor economy rate of 10.63.
Dube’s batting remains a strong asset, but Kaif’s comments indicate that his bowling may not inspire the same level of confidence.
