'He has no chance of playing in the 2027 World Cup' - Kris Srikkanth’s bold statement on Shivam Dube amid ENG vs IND ODI series

Kris Srikkanth believes that Shivam Dube has no chance of playing the 2027 ODI World Cup but is only playing the three-match ODI series against England because fellow seam-bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy are injured.

With only 15 months left ahead of the ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, Srikkanth urged the Indian team management to utilise the players diligently. He was against India playing Dube in the ODI side.

Dube played in the first ODI against England and bowled six overs, conceding 27 runs and picking up the wicket of Will Jacks. However, he didn't get a chance to bat, as India chased down a 259-run target with six wickets and 28 balls to spare at Edgbaston, Birmingham, on Tuesday, July 14. This was Dube's first ODI appearance in almost two years.

"Don't give chances to too many players though. For example, Shivam Dube has no chance of playing in the 2027 World Cup. But he is there only because Hardik Pandya and Nitish Kumar Reddy are injury prone."

Dube has struggled for quite some time with his fielding. He dropped Joe Root on Tuesday when he was batting on seven. The former England captain went on to score an unbeaten 76. Srikkanth jokingly said that it was not a surprise that Dube dropped another catch.

"Dube bowled well in this match and if he had held on to Root's catch, England wouldn't have even scored 150. He has a rule that he has to drop atleast one catch per match. He won't get sleep if he doesn't drop atleast one catch in a match. Likewise, we also won't sleep and have anything to talk about if he doesn't drop a catch. It'll not just rain but snow in Chennai if Dube doesn't drop a catch," said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
