'He is my opening partner' - Vaibhav Sooryavanshi picks his ideal tennis doubles partner
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has revealed that he would love to partner with Abhishek Sharma for a tennis doubles match if required. The teenage sensation was in attendance at Centre Court to witness the Gentlemen's Singles Final between Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, which the former won in four sets.
When asked who he would love to partner with for a doubles game, the 15-year-old chose Abhishek since the left-hander is his first opening partner in international cricket. Doubles needs good coordination, something Sooryavanshi has had with his opening partner. The young starlet said that he likes batting alongside the Sunrisers Hyderabad star.
"I will go with Abhishek bhaiya. He is my opening partner in international cricket. I really enjoy batting with him a lot, so I will choose him as my doubles tennis partner as well," Vaibhav Sooryavanshi said to JioStar.
Sooryavanshi also revealed his favourite tennis player, claiming he has been a fan of the sport for several years.
"I have been following tennis for the last four to five years. I used to watch Nadal and Djokovic a lot. Now I am a big fan of Djokovic. But both of them are players I have always followed closely," he added.
Meanwhile, Abhishek, who was also in attendance at the Wimbledon final, picked Rafael Nadal over Novak Djokovic as his favourite tennis player of all time. The primary reason to pick the Spaniard was simple. Since Nadal is a left-handed athlete, similar to the 25-year-old, it was easy for him to pledge his allegiance towards the 22-time Grand Slam winner.
"It was actually one of my dreams to come to Wimbledon. And to be here on finals day makes it even more special. I am just going to enjoy the match and soak it all in. I always looked up to Rafael Nadal. He is a lefty like me, and one of the most successful left-handed players in tennis history. His work ethic, his attitude, and the way he dominated the sport for so many years – he is definitely someone I admire," Abhishek Sharma said on JioStar.

It is worth mentioning that both Sooryavanshi and Abhishek formed part of the Indian squad that suffered a 4-0 T20I series defeat at the hands of England. The duo had underwhelming campaigns based on their lofty standards. The 15-year-old, playing his first international series, managed just 42 runs from three matches, while the other opening batter scored one half-century and one 40 before ending the series on a low note.
