'He is not just your T20 slogger' - Sanjay Manjrekar lauds Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after quickfire knock in IND A vs AFG A
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi showed a different to his batting in India A's clash against Afghanistan A in the second game of the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka. In the match being played at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Thursday, June 11, the southpaw hit nine boundaries but no sixes during his 44-run knock off 22 balls.
Sooryavanshi has made a reputation for himself as a batter who likes hitting more sixes than fours. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the 15-year-old hit 63 fours and 72 sixes. He broke Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes hit by a batter in an IPL season. On Thursday, however, he showcased finesse, hitting nine delightful boundaries, bisecting the gaps in the field brilliantly.
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar took to social media and said that it is exciting to watch Sooryavanshi batting in Sri Lankan conditions, where the pitches are not that conducive to batters. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that the opening batter is not a T20 slogger but someone who can perform well in 50-over matches too.
"India A is in SL, pitch not as flat as in the IPL & it’s not T20 cricket. So watching Vaibhav Suryavanshi in different batting conditions. And I am excited! He is not just your T20 slogger. He can be a one day phenomenon too! Special talent!" Manjrekar wrote on his official 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle.

Sooryavanshi had a dismal outing in the first game of the tri-series against Sri Lanka A. He was dismissed for 14 after facing 12 balls. However, on Thursday, he treated the fans to his exemplary batting talent.
