Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers shed light upon the potential Dewald Brevis possesses in terms of his cricketing abilities. de Villiers recently led South Africa Champions to a title in the 2025 edition of the World Championship of Legends.
De Villiers, who was a legendary component of Royal Challengers Bengaluru over 11 seasons, also commented on how he would have loved if Brevis played for RCB and not Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.
"From South Africa, I would say Dewald Brevis (who could become the next 360-degree player in the game). Yeah, he has the Number 17 on the back. He plays similar kind of cricket. He is very attacking and still has a lot to learn. He is playing for CSK and not RCB, that is a shame," shared de Villiers during a conversation with renowned YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra.
Brevis, currently 22, made his international debut for South Africa in August 2023. The talented batting all-rounder has played two Tests and seven T20Is for the nation so far. Having played 25 List A matches, he is yet to make his debut in the 50-over format.
IPL 2025 was Brevis' third season in the marquee T20 tournament. Coming in for INR 2.2 crore as an injury replacement for Gurjapneet Singh. Striking at a blistering 180, he registered 225 runs for CSK in an otherwise disappointing run for the five-time IPL winners.
Brevis was recently involved in the Zimbabwe T20I Tri-Nation Series in the Proteas' squad. Out of the six matches the team played, he surpassed the 30-run mark four times while striking at a decent rate (187.32).
