Here’s how Delhi Capitals can still qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs

Delhi Capitals (DC), who began IPL 2025 with one of the most promising starts have suffered another setback on Sunday, leaving their playoff hopes hanging by a thread. After notching up four consecutive wins early in the season, DC have now slumped to their fifth defeat. Currently sitting fifth on the points table with 13 points from 12 games, they’ll need to deliver a strong finish in the remaining matches to keep their chances of making the top four alive.
Capitals were blown away by a batting masterclass from the Gujarat Titans (GT) last night. Despite putting up a formidable total on the board, DC’s bowlers struggled to make any sort of impact and GT never let the home side take control of the game. Powered by blistering knocks from Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill, the Titans chased down the target without losing a single wicket.
Now, with three spots for the playoffs already booked and the same number of teams in contention for the remaining one place. The equation is now a bit complicated as DC not only have to win their remaining games but depend on others too. They must win both of their remaining league matches to reach 17 points. Their next 2 matches are up against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
Alongside that, they’ll need favorable results from other fixtures — especially losses for teams currently in contention. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), who are with 10 points in 11 games, must lose one of their remaining matches. However, DC can still qualify with 15 points but they must beat Mumbai in their next game and hope MI also lose to Punjab. In this case, DC’s loss to PBKS won’t matter. Additionally, Lucknow must lose at least one of their remaining three matches.

Net run rate will play a crucial role too, so convincing wins will be key. DC’s net run-rate (NRR) still is in positive (+0.26) but top order must fire and their bowlers need to deliver under pressure. The equation is tight but not impossible. With momentum and clarity in strategy, DC can still turn things around and sneak into the top four if they hold their nerve.
As the IPL 2025 league stage nears its climax, Capitals are gearing up for a do-or-die clash against a formidable Mumbai side on Wednesday. With the stakes higher than ever, this match could very well decide DC’s fate in the tournament. MI, the five-time champions, are currently sitting comfortably in fourth place with 14 points from 12 games and a commanding net run rate of (+1.156). For Delhi, the equation is simple — win or be knocked out. A loss here would officially end their playoff hopes and bring the curtains down on what began as a promising campaign.
