Here’s why Vaibhav Suryavanshi will use a separate dressing room during India’s England tour

India’s upcoming white-ball tour of Ireland and England is set to attract significant attention, with teenage sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi included in the squad. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) star has enjoyed a remarkable rise over the last two seasons and is widely expected to become one of the youngest cricketers to represent India at the international level.
While much of the focus has been on what the 15-year-old could achieve on the field, an interesting development regarding his off-field arrangements during the England tour has also come to light. The special provision is linked to regulations that apply to players of his age competing in international events in the United Kingdom.
According to reports, Suryavanshi will be required to use a separate changing room from his India teammates during the five-match T20I series in England. The arrangement is being implemented in accordance with safeguarding regulations enforced by both the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for players under the age of 16. While Suryavanshi will be allowed to attend team meetings, participate in pre-match discussions, and remain in the dressing room during games, he will have separate facilities while changing before and after matches.
The board further confirmed that venue officials and India’s team management are working closely to ensure all safeguarding protocols are followed throughout the tour. The ECB also revealed that Suryavanshi’s parents will accompany him during the tour and will stay in the same hotel as the Indian squad due to his age.
“This is an ICC event, with their safeguarding procedures active as they have jurisdiction. A safeguarding concern occurring during the event may be managed by the ICC. In addition to this, the ECB Safe Hands policy applies at all times. The Cricket Regulator is in contact with the Team Liaison Officer (TLO) for the Indian team to discuss requirements and expectations for the player while he is in the UK. It is our understanding that the player’s parents will be travelling with him at all times. They are staying in the same hotel, which is outside of usual protocol, but agreed on this occasion due to his age,” ECB said.

The teenager heads into the tour after a stunning run of form in domestic and franchise cricket. Suryavanshi recently enjoyed another record-breaking IPL 2026 campaign and continued his impressive performances for India A ahead of the England tour. India will play two T20Is against Ireland in Belfast before travelling to England for a five-match T20I series followed by three ODIs. Interestingly, the safeguarding regulations are expected to apply only during the England leg of the tour, as the matches in Ireland fall under the jurisdiction of Cricket Ireland.
If selected during the tour, Suryavanshi will become India’s youngest men’s international cricketer, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of 16 years and 205 days. Another debutant is Suryansh Shedge, who has been named as a replacement for the injured Nitish Kumar Reddy in the India T20I squads for the upcoming tours of Ireland and England.
