'He's not born with superior talent' - Jonty Rhodes' stunning remark about Rohit Sharma amid IND vs AFG ODIs
Jonty Rhodes opined that while Rohit Sharma was not born with superior talent, he achieved surreal success thanks to his consistency in approach. The latter is one of the biggest names in world cricket and has had a decorated career as captain in the international circuit as well as in the IPL. Rohit is currently playing in the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan.
Rhodes recalled his time at Mumbai Indians as a fielding coach, as he saw from close quarters how Rohit worked on his game. According to the former South African cricketer, Rohit stands out with his ability to make tough things look simple.
"I keep telling journalists I had the best job in the world. I got to watch Rohit Sharma practice. He would like to walk through the middle and feel it, rather than have a massive workout session. He just makes it look way too easy. He's not born with superior talent, but the consistency in approach, he's always been like that," he said during a conversation on Prakhar Gupta's YouTube channel.
Rhodes said that India's legendary captains - MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma - have been successful because they have been themselves while leading the team and have not tried to follow someone else's modus operandi.
"His leadership style has been the same. He's actually very funny. He's got some great chirps on the stump mic and he gives his teammates a hard time. That personality has been throughout. It goes back to that. You don't have to be an MS Dhoni or a Virat. You just have to be yourself. They're all so different, all the three and successful because they have consistency," he reflected.
Rhodes compared Rohit to current Indian Test vice-captain KL Rahul, saying that both of them have the ability to captivate fans with their effortless timing.
Jonty Rhodes points out major drawback in Kohli's fielding
"Rohit is a bit like KL Rahul. Makes it look so easy. But Rohit is not the greatest looking athlete compared to KL. But when he hits the ball with effortless timing, it is captivating when you watch him bat."
