The Melbourne Cricket Ground witnessed a horrific moment during the Big Bash League 2025-26 clash between the Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes when Hilton Cartwright took a painful blow to his nose while fielding on the boundary. The incident occurred as Cartwright put his body on the line in an attempt to save a boundary. Thankfully, after immediate medical attention, the Stars all-rounder was declared fit to continue.

The moment took place during the Hurricanes’ innings, with Haris Rauf bowling to Tim David in the 13th over. Rauf banged the ball short of a length outside off, inviting the pull shot. David connected brilliantly, sending the ball racing towards the mid-wicket boundary where Cartwright was stationed. Diving to his left in an attempt to stop the four, Cartwright misjudged the bounce as the ball bounced off his arm and hit him hard on the face before rolling into the boundary. After a brief check, he was given the all-clear and continued fielding.

Meanwhile, in the game, after winning the toss and opting to field first, the Melbourne Stars were reduced by the Hurricanes to 36/3 inside the power play. Ben McDermott anchored the innings with a 69 off 52 balls, while Tim David added a run-a-ball 31 in an 83-run stand that steadied the Hurricanes' innings.

However, once David fell in the 16th over, and McDermott’s dismissal in the 18th over triggered a collapse, with the Hurricanes restricted to 158/9. Peter Siddle led the bowling with three wickets, while Marcus Stoinis returned with figures of 2/18.

Chasing 159, the Stars' openers Thomas Rogers and Joe Clarke gave them a solid start before both fell to Rishad Hossain. From there, Stoinis played an unbeaten knock of 62 off just 31 balls, smashing seven fours and two sixes. Campbell Kellaway provided solid support with an unbeaten 41 off 27 as the Stars cruised to victory with 24 balls to spare.
