'How he handles that will be his biggest challenge' - Sam Curran sounds caution for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of ENG vs IND 2nd T20I
Sam Curran highlighted some of the challenges that Vaibhav Sooryavanshi might face if he finally gets to make his India debut at the age of 15.
While a major section of cricket enthusiasts, including fans and experts, is urging the Indian team management to give Sooryavanshi his maiden international cap, Curran said that playing at the highest level at such a young age, that too in England were the conditions are not always in favour of the batters, might be a huge challenge for the opener. However, the English all-rounder heaped praise on the Bihar batter for his exceptional talent.
"Being an Indian cricketer in India is much bigger than who we are. How he handles that will be his biggest challenge. He has played only one or two IPL seasons and is straight into the Indian squad. I am sure there are people around him to help but you never know how he'll do until he is given his debut. I am sure he is going to have ups and downs like anybody else," Curran told the media (via Revsportz YouTube channel).
"Playing for India at 15 is such a cool story that even as an opposition, you've to admire his skills. He's getting so much attention but it'll be interesting as in England, maybe he's playing on a slow surface and it might be a bit different. But it's special what he is doing."
Curran recalled what he was doing when he was 15, and it wasn't anything as extraordinary as Sooryavanshi's exploits. The 28-year-old admitted that he enjoys watching Sooryavanshi bat unless he is on the opposite end of his brutal strokeplay.
"It's cool what he's doing at 15. I think I was just rocking in the Surrey individual school at 15. And here he is smacking it around Ahmedabad and places like that. Hopefully he can just keep his head down because even I like watching him play, unless it's against my bowling," said Curran (via the aforementioned source).
