'I spoke to selectors and captain' - Ravindra Jadeja unsure of his ODI snub amid 2027 World Cup dream

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are not the only senior players in focus for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also expressed his willingness to be a part of the 50-over squad and help the Indian team lift the World Cup trophy in Africa. Notably, Jadeja was recently dropped from the ODI squad ahead of the tour of Australia.
On being asked about his views on his non-selection at the press conference on the second day of the ongoing Test match against the West Indies, Jadeja said that like any other cricketer, he also dreams to win an ODI World Cup before calling a time on his career. Upon being dropped, Jadeja spoke to chief selector and captain Shubman Gill, but the response they had didn't go to the likings of the Saurashtra cricketer.
"Of course, I want to play the 2027 World Cup. It’s every cricketer’s dream to win an ODI World Cup. The selectors and captain spoke to me, but honestly, I didn’t understand the reasons," Jadeja told reporters at the press conference after the end of the second day's play.
For the unversed, Shubman Gill has replaced the veteran Rohit Sharma as the new captain in ODIs, as the selection committee led by Agarkar has visions to build a team keeping the future in mind. Rohit and Virat managed to retain their places in the squad, however, Jadeja, who hit the winning runs in India's last ODI match, was nowhere to be seen in the 15-man line-up for the series beginning October 19 in Perth.
Virat, Rohit to play Vijay Hazare Trophy before NZ ODIs
The three-match series will commence with the first ODI, while the second and third match of the series will be played in Adelaide and Sydney on October 23 and October 25, respectively. The Shubman Gill-led side features Shreyas Iyer as the vice-captain, whereas KL Rahul is the specialist wicketkeeper-batter in the roster. Apart from Jadeja, all-rounder Hardik Pandya is also missing from the list due to an injury.
India ODI squad for Australia tour: Shubman Gill (captain), Shreyas Iyer (vice-captain), Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (wicketkeeper), Axar Patel, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav
