ICC approves USD 12.82 million loan for Cricket West Indies amid financial challenges

The ICC Board has greenlit a USD 12.82 million financial package to support Cricket West Indies' operational needs. The decision came during the ICC's Annual Conference in Edinburgh on Tuesday. BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia was simultaneously appointed to chair the newly formed Governance Review Committee, a key structural shift in how international cricket is administered at the highest levels.

The Governance Review Committee, now led by Saikia, includes Dr. Mohammed Moosajee from Cricket South Africa and Dr. Ros Rivaz, an ICC Independent Director. Separately, the ICC established a Franchise Leagues Committee chaired by Bangladesh Cricket Board President Tamim Iqbal, with membership including Saikia, Dr Rudie van Vuuren from Cricket Namibia, Richard Gould from the England and Wales Cricket Board, and Todd Greenberg from Cricket Australia. The twin committee structure signals the ICC's focus on modernizing oversight across governance frameworks and the fast-growing franchise landscape.

The financial injection targets the Caribbean board's ongoing operational challenges, which have persisted for several years. By allocating this capital, the ICC aims to help stabilize the West Indies' administrative capacity and continue grassroots development work throughout the region. Cricket in the Caribbean has weathered significant economic pressures, making this institutional backing particularly important for the sport's long-term viability in those territories.
