The International Cricket Council is said to have taken their first major step in a bid to resolve the ongoing tension between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and Asia Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi. A meeting was hosted by the apex cricketing body in Dubai on Friday, November 7 to discuss a range of vital topics, including the infamous trophy row at the Asia Cup 2025.

The BCCI is understood to have raised the issue of Naqvi possessing the Asia Cup trophy during the meeting. After several members from the ICC emphasized the importance of India and Pakistan in the cricketing economy, a committee was set up in the aim that the Indian team receives the trophy at the early.

The standoff regarding the Asia Cup trophy row was not part of the official agenda. Therefore, no minutes were recorded related to the matter. The meeting in the first place was held to discuss matters such as Women's World Cup expansion, the Olympics, and Mithali Raj's appointment to the ICC Women's Cricket Committee.

For those who do not know, Suryakumar Yadav & Co. refused to accept the Asia Cup trophy from Naqvi at the end of the final because of the insensitive comments he had made related to the cross-border tensions between the two nations. The BCCI had made a formal request to sort out the matter. However, the issue remains unresolved up until now.

The meeting also determined the expansion of the next instalment of the Women's World Cup, which will be held in 2029. The media statement also revealed the number of people who thronged the venues, as well as those who watched the matches digitally.

"The ICC Board, keen to build on the success of the event, agreed to expand the next edition of the tournament to 10 teams (from 8 teams in 2025). Nearly 300,000 fans watched the event in stadia, breaking the record for tournament attendance at any women's cricket event. The tournament also witnessed viewership growth and new records being set for on-screen audiences across the world, with nearly 500 million viewers in India," stated a press release from the ICC.
