India’s young opener Abhishek Sharma has etched his name in cricketing history by crossing the 900+ rating points milestone in ICC T20I rankings.
25-year-old Abhishek has joined the ranks of Virat Kohli, Babar Azam, David Malan, Suryakumar Yadav, Aaron Finch and Heinrich Klaasen as one of only seven players ever to achieve this rare feat. His consistent performances in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 have propelled him to the world’s No.1 T20I batter position, cementing his reputation as one of the brightest young stars in international cricket.
Abhishek has been the standout performer of the tournament so far, amassing 248 runs in five innings at a staggering strike rate of 206.66. His aggressive batting at the top has given India blistering starts, often taking the game away from opponents within the powerplay. With his fearless stroke play and ability to dominate bowlers, Abhishek has emerged as the highest run-scorer of Asia Cup 2025.
His achievements highlight India’s growing depth in batting, especially with legends like Kohli having previously held the same No.1 rank. For Abhishek, reaching this milestone so early in his career is not only a personal triumph but also a major boost for Indian cricket’s T20I ambitions.
It is not just Abhishek who has put India on the map in the ICC T20I rankings. The Men in Blue currently hold the No.1 ranking as a team, showcasing their dominance in the shortest format. Alongside Abhishek’s top spot among batters, Varun Chakravarthy has risen to the position of No.1 bowler, while Hardik Pandya has claimed the crown of No.1 all-rounder.
This rare achievement of holding the top rankings in all categories demonstrates India’s complete control in world T20 cricket, reflecting the team’s balance and depth.

India’s dominance has been equally visible in their Asia Cup 2025 campaign. The team began their journey with a commanding 9-wicket victory over UAE, followed by a resounding 7-wicket win against arch-rivals Pakistan. They then defeated Oman by 21 runs to finish the group stage unbeaten.
In the Super 4 stage, India once again asserted their superiority, edging past Pakistan in a thrilling 6-wicket win before dismantling Bangladesh by 41 runs. These victories have ensured that the Men in Blue remain unbeaten so far in the tournament, heading confidently toward the knockout stages.
With momentum firmly on their side, India will next face Sri Lanka on Friday in their final Super 4 fixture. A win would solidify their position at the top before the Asia Cup 2025 final, scheduled for Sunday, September 28. The final will see India face the winner of the Pakistan vs Bangladesh clash, setting the stage for another high-voltage encounter.
