If I was MS Dhoni, I would say it's enough: Sanjay Bangar

Sanjay Bangar urged MS Dhoni to draw the curtains down on his illustrious Indian Premier League (IPL) career after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost to Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Tuesday, May 20, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

The Men in Yellow lost their 10th match of the season as they failed to defend a 188-run target against the inaugural champions. Dhoni played a peculiar knock of 16 off 17 balls in the backend of the CSK innings, hitting only one six off Riyan Parag's bowling. The legendary cricketer has never been a part of a team which finished at the bottom of the points table in the IPL. However, after Tuesday's defeat, CSK would need a miracle to avoid the wooden spoon.

Dhoni has struggled to live up to his potential in IPL 2025. The 43-year-old mesmerised fans with his ability to hit sixes from the first ball last season. However, in the ongoing edition, he has only managed 196 runs from 13 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.18.

“It all boils down to MS, but if I was MS, I would say it's enough. I have played whatever I wanted to play; I have looked after the interest of the franchise as well – if that was the motivation – but you know, you move on,” Bangar said while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.

Bangar also said that the 43-year-old should not be worried about the Super Kings' transition as it will happen on its own.

“By you being there, if you're thinking that the transition will happen fast, there is never an ideal time. So you might as well have peace with the fact that even if I leave now, the franchise will develop on its own. It may take a year longer, but I am not going to be there for the entire cycle," the former India batting coach stated.

RR chased the total in 17.1 overs with six wickets to spare. CSK will close their campaign by facing Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 25.
