The inaugural ILT20 auction brought a mix of excitement, blockbuster signings, and unexpected omissions as nearly 300 players went under the hammer. With six franchises battling for marquee names and strategic bargains, the auction reshaped squad dynamics for the upcoming season.
West Indies star Andre Fletcher stole the spotlight as the most expensive player, signing with MI Emirates for USD 260,000. He was closely followed by England’s Scott Currie, who joined Dubai Capitals for USD 250,000, and Liam Dawson, snapped up by Gulf Giants for USD 170,000.
The auction also showcased strong faith in UAE cricketers, underlining the league’s mission to promote regional talent.
Sharjah Warriorz used their Right-to-Match (RTM) card to retain Junaid Siddique for USD 170,000, making him their costliest acquisition.
Rising fast bowler Muhammad Rohid went to MI Emirates for USD 140,000, further proving the demand for local pace talent.
The auction rules mandated at least two UAE players and one associate nation player in every XI, boosting opportunities for lesser-known cricketers. In a historic first, Saudi Arabian all-rounder Faisal Khan was picked by Desert Vipers for USD 10,000, marking a breakthrough for associate cricket representation.
Despite high expectations, some global names failed to attract any bids:
Ravichandran Ashwin (India): Entered with the highest base price (USD 120,000) but went unsold, underlining franchises’ preference for youth, versatility, and value buys.
Other Snubs: Pakistan’s Saim Ayub and left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir also remained unsold, reflecting the cautious approach of franchises.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan was snapped up by MI Emirates for just USD 40,000, one of the bargain picks of the auction.
