Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma fell cheaply in the third unofficial ODI of the series between India A and Australia A at Green Park in Kanpur on October 5. The duo played an integral role in India's Asia Cup 2025 title-winning run recently.
Australia A's skipper Jack Edwards scored 89 off 75 as his side piled up 316 in 49.1 overs. Prabhsimran Singh, who opened along with Abhishek, was the aggressor in the opening partnership.
Abhishek was the first wicket to fall, walking back after scoring 22 off 25 balls after being dismissed by Todd Murphy. India A's score at the fall of the wicket was 83/1 in 11.2 overs. Tilak (3 off 6) was dismissed shortly after as Murphy struck in consecutive overs. While Abhishek was caught out by Tanveer Sangha, Tilak was trapped in front.
Abhishek was awarded the Player of the Tournament award for his splendid performance in the 2025 Asia Cup, as he scored 314 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 200. Tilak was also impressive, with his scores before the final being DNB, 31, 29, 30*, 5 and 49*. He saved the best for the last as his composed unbeaten 53-ball 69 against Pakistan in the summit clash and won the Player of the Match award.
Abhishek and Tilak were also a part of the second unofficial ODI. While Abhishek disappointingly fell for a golden duck, Tilak shone with a 122-ball 94. The left-handed batter's knock comprised five fours and four sixes. However, India A lost the game by nine wickets (DLS). They got to 160/1 in 16.4 overs after the contest was shortened to a 25-overs-a-side.
