Prasidh Krishna copped a blow on his helmet while attempting to play a pull shot off a short ball from Henry Thornton on Day 2 of the second unofficial Test at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday, September 24.
The Karnataka speedster was replaced as a concussion substitute by fellow right-arm seamer Yash Thakur. Thornton's short delivery hit Krishna on the helmet in the 39th over of India A's innings. He tried to pull the sharp delivery but failed to establish contact. Krishna continued batting after the mandatory concussion check.
After the 42nd over, however, Krishna began walking back towards the dressing room, and the new batter, Mohammed Siraj, came in. When India A were eight down at the fall of Siraj's wicket, Gurnoor Brar came in at No. 11, and when B Sai Sudharsan was dismissed after that, the concussion substitute Thakur walked out as the last batter, replacing Krishna in the playing XI.
While the extent of Krishna's injury is unclear, the national selectors will meet later on Wednesday to pick the squad for the two-match Test series at home against the West Indies. Krishna is expected to be selected in the squad, alongside pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Akash Deep. The first Test match between India and the West Indies commenced on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Krishna did not have a great a time in the red-ball encounters against Australia A. In the first game, he bowled 16 overs and conceded 86 runs without picking up a wicket. In the second innings, the 29-year-old bowled five overs, giving away just four runs. In Australia's first innings in the second encounter, Krishna gave away 76 runs in 17 overs, bagging a solitary wicket. This is the Bengaluru-born's first competitive assignment since the Anderson-Tendulkar Test series in England, which concluded in early August.
Rahul falls early on return ahead of West Indies series
India A were bowled out for 194 in 52.5 overs after Australia A posted 420 in the first innings. Sai Sudharsan top-scored for India A with a 140-ball 75.
