Dhruv Jurel produced a sparkling innings on day three of the first unofficial Test between India A and Australia A in Lucknow, bringing up his second First-Class hundred in just 115 balls. The wicketkeeper-batter struck nine fours and three sixes, steering India A’s reply after Australia A declared their first innings at 532 for six. By stumps, the hosts trailed by less than 150 runs with six wickets still intact, setting up an intriguing final phase of the match.

Jurel’s innings was a mix of power and composure, reflecting his growing maturity as a red-ball cricketer. He reached his half-century in spectacular fashion, taking on off-spinner Corey Rocchiccioli. First, he launched the ball over long-on for six, followed it up with a straight strike down the ground, and then guided a clever late cut past slip for four. These strokes epitomized his ability to switch gears seamlessly.

What stood out was his balance between aggression and defence. While willing to take risks when opportunities presented themselves, Jurel also displayed sound technique against probing deliveries, frustrating Australia A’s bowlers and anchoring India A’s innings.

The 23-year-old has been on the selectors’ radar for some time and was recently named Central Zone captain for the Duleep Trophy quarterfinal against North East Zone. However, a groin niggle forced him to withdraw, with Rajat Patidar stepping in to lead Central Zone to the title.

His century in Lucknow is not just a personal milestone but also a statement of fitness and form. After missing a key domestic opportunity, Jurel has made a powerful return, showing that he remains a serious contender for higher honours.

Australia A’s massive declaration of 532/6 had initially put India A under pressure. However, Dhruv Jurel’s fluent century ensured the hosts remained steady and avoided a collapse. With six wickets still in hand and the deficit reduced to 129, India A will look to bat deep into day four to neutralize Australia’s advantage.

At stumps, Jurel was unbeaten on 113 off 132 balls, while Devdutt Padikkal held firm on 86 from 178 deliveries. Earlier, Abhimanyu Easwaran (44 off 58), N Jagadeesan (64 off 113), and Sai Sudharsan (73 off 124) chipped in with valuable contributions to keep the innings on track for the home side.
