In a moment of pure athletic brilliance, Sneh Rana produced a jaw-dropping catch to dismiss Phoebe Litchfield during India’s high-voltage Women’s World Cup 2025 clash against Australia at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The spectacular effort came off the second ball of the 12th over, bowled by Shree Charani, just when Australia were beginning to settle into their chase of India’s mammoth first-innings total.
The delivery from Charani was tossed up outside off, inviting Litchfield to play the reverse sweep. The Australian batter timed it beautifully, and for a moment, it looked destined to race away for four. But Rana, stationed at backward point, had other plans. Moving sharply to her left, she stuck out both hands and somehow managed to clasp the ball cleanly in mid-air.
It was a catch that combined instinct, quick reflexes, and sheer courage. Rana, visibly surprised herself, threw the ball away in delight as her teammates rushed in to celebrate. Litchfield, on the other hand, stood in disbelief, knowing she had middled it perfectly but still found her effort ending in dismissal.
The wicket came at a crucial juncture for India, as the Australian top order was looking to rebuild after an early loss. Rana’s sensational grab not only lifted India’s energy on the field but also broke Australia’s growing momentum.

Young spinner Charani, who had been building pressure with her consistent lines, was rewarded for her persistence. She struck with her second ball of the over, sending Litchfield back to the pavilion. The wicket was a much-needed breakthrough, as India had been searching for answers after a strong Australian start.
Earlier in the day, India had posted a commanding 330 in 48.5 overs, riding on brilliant knocks from Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. Mandhana, who reached the historic milestone of 5000 ODI runs, scored a fluent 80 off 66 balls, while debutant Rawal impressed with a composed 75. Their 155-run opening stand laid the foundation for India’s imposing total against a strong Australian attack.
The duo’s partnership not only gave India a dream start but also ensured the middle order had the freedom to play aggressively. Though the innings saw a late collapse, India’s top order ensured the team had enough on the board to challenge the Australians.
