Batting all-rounder Michael Bracewell, who had once thought he would never get an opportunity to represent New Zealand, is currently representing the Kiwis in his 100th international match. Bracewell is currently leading the visiting New Zealand side in their three-match One-Day International series against India.
Ahead of his 100th game, which came during the ongoing third and final match of the series in Indore, Bracewell shared how he has worn the national colours with a lot of pride each time he has gotten an opportunity to represent the country in an international encounter.
“For a long time, I never thought I’d play once, so to be standing here on the eve of 100 games is pretty special. Every one of those games has been a significant achievement, I think, and certainly one that I go out and play with a lot of pride,” stated Bracewell, as quoted by Otago Daily Times.
He also spoke on the bowing opportunities which have come along the way. The spin-bowling all-rounder mentioned that he was proud of the manner in which he has refined his bowling over time while getting exposed to varying conditions and pitches around the world.
“Each format has its unique challenges and I think probably one thing I wasn’t expecting as I was younger was the bowling opportunities that I’ve had. It’s something that I’ve really enjoyed, being able to try and work up my game, and understand how to bowl in different conditions. I think that’s something that I’m really proud of, trying to adjust and being effective in different formats in different conditions around the world,” he added.

Bracewell, who is currently playing his 43rd ODI for New Zealand, has also played 47 T20Is and 10 red-ball matches. The cricketer made his international debut in March 2022 and soon grew from strength to strength to become a white-ball regular for the Kiwis. Furthermore, Bracewell has also led the BlackCaps on a few occasions, especially on those instances when Mitchell Santner has been unavailable.
