IND vs NZ 2026: India announce ODI squad; Shreyas Iyer's availability subject to fitness clearance

On Saturday, January 3, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the much-awaited squad for India's upcoming One-Day International series against New Zealand. The three-match series will be commencing on January 11 with the first match to be played at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara, as Shubman Gill will be leading the Men in Blue.
Meanwhile, the largely anticipated return of vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has also come to fruition, but his participation is subjected to receiving a fitness clearance from the Centre of Excellence, Bengaluru. Iyer will be undergoing his rehabilitation up to a couple of days ahead of the first encounter, and might be a late entrant to re-unite with the squad. If the CoE declares him fit enough, he will be cleared to resume playing.
The wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has maintained his spot in the side, despite media reports stating otherwise. Dhruv Jurel has missed out, though. Meanwhile, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, too, have been kept out, keeping in mind their workload management ahead of the upcoming T20I series and the T20 World Cup that follows. Both were absent for the recent ODIs against South Africa as well.
Among pacers, the attack will be led by Mohammed Siraj as the most experienced bowler in the unit, whereas Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana are there too alongside Prasidh Krishna. Among spinners, India have the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Washington Sundar. Both Jadeja and Sundar can bat as well, in addition to Nitish Kumar Reddy, who's the sole pace-bowling all-rounder among the fifteen.
Shubman Gill (captain), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC) (subject to fitness clearance), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal
