New Zealand clinched the three-match ODI series 2-1 against India with a 41-run victory in the final ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, on Sunday, January 18. After winning the toss, India opted to field first, but the decision did not yield the desired result as the visitors posted a formidable total of 337/8 in their 50 overs.
New Zealand’s innings was powered by brilliant centuries from Daryl Mitchell and Glenn Phillips. Mitchell played a composed knock of 137 off 131 balls, while Phillips provided momentum with an aggressive 106 off 88 deliveries. For India, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana were the standout bowlers, claiming three wickets each.
In reply, India were bowled out for 296 in 46 overs, falling short by 41 runs. Virat Kohli led the chase with a magnificent 124 off 108 balls, keeping India in the contest for a long period. He received support from Nitish Kumar Reddy, who scored 53 off 57 balls, and Harshit Rana, who impressed with a quick 52 off 43 deliveries.
For New Zealand, the bowling attack shared the spoils, with Zakary Foulkes and Kristian Clarke picking up three wickets each.
Daryl Mitchell emerged as the standout batting performer, scoring a superb 137 off 131 balls, which included 15 fours and three sixes, at a strike rate of 104.58. He first stitched together a 53-run partnership for the third wicket with Will Young in 66 balls, before playing a key role in a massive 219-run stand for the fourth wicket with Glenn Phillips off 186 deliveries, laying the foundation for New Zealand’s imposing total.
Kristian Clarke was the standout performer with the ball in the match, finishing with impressive figures of 3/54 in his nine overs at an economy rate of 6.00. He delivered crucial breakthroughs by dismissing Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, playing a key role in restricting India during the chase.

The New Zealand batter played a pivotal role in the series decider, first forging a 50-plus partnership with Will Young before being involved in a massive 200-plus stand with Glenn Phillips, which powered New Zealand to a commanding total.
Daryl Mitchell also won the Player of the Series award after finishing as the leading run-scorer in the three-match ODI series. He amassed a staggering 352 runs in three innings at an exceptional average of 176, which included two centuries and one half-century. His highest score of 137 came in the series decider at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Mitchell’s dominant run also featured 31 fours and eight sixes.
The ODI series concluded with New Zealand lifting the trophy 2-1. With the 50-over leg done, both teams will now shift their focus to the five-match T20I series, which is set to begin on Wednesday, January 21, in Nagpur.
