The tourists are in the ascendancy at Stumps on Day 2 of the second Test of the series between India and South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Bad light brought a slightly premature end to a day at the end of which India trail by 480 runs.
Senuran Muthusamy brought up his maiden Test ton in what was a truly remarkable display of batting from the batting all-rounder. He headlined the day with 109 off 206. He put on two substantial partnerships with Kyle Verreynne (45 off 122) and Marco Jansen (93 off 91) to push South Africa to a fighting total.
Jansen was dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. The tall all-rounder was Kuldeep's fourth wicket of the innings. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja finished with two wickets apiece. By the time the day concluded, India did not lose any wickets with Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul at the crease. All three of Wiaan Mulder's overs were maiden overs.

Muthusamy's knock comprised 10 fours and two sixes. He batted like a proper batter in the middle and held one end perfectly. Muthusamy served as the perfect foil for Verreynne to steadily build his innings and Jansen to accelarate.
Kuldeep's 29.4 overs resulted in 115 runs being conceded. Although he picked up only one wicket on Day 2, the manner in which he held things tight despite the pitch not offering a lot for the spinners wass commendable. Kuldeep was one of the more economical bowlers on the second day.
