Nandre Burger has sustained a hamstring injury during the second ODI of the three-match series between India and South Africa. Early assessments have indicated that the left-arm seamer, as per ESPNcricinfo, has injured his right hamstring, which could ultimately have an impact on the rest of his season.
Burger lost is run-up twice after delivering the first ball of his seventh over in Raipur. He grimaced his pain during running in and was just not able to land on his right leg. He pulled his right leg in pain and hobbled off the field with the team physiotherapist. Aiden Markram had to come into the attack to finish the remaining five deliveries of the 39th over of the innings.
The 30-year-old was originally not announced for the five T20Is to follow the 50-over leg of the all-format series. Burger, who has been an integral component of the Proteas' bowling line-up will not feature in the third and final ODI of the series on Saturday, December 6. Anrich Nortje might potentially be back in the T20I XI.

South Africa are already suffering from a depleted pace-bowling unit. Kagiso Rabada has not made it to the final squad due to a niggle. On the other hand, Gerald Coetzee was not picked by the selection committee due to fitness concerns.
Speaking about Burger, he has had to suffer from a long list of injuries. This includes a stress fracture in the lower back which ruled him out of any form of competitive cricket from October of last year to September 2025. He also missed the previous instalment of the SA20. Joburg Super Kings re-signed Burger for R6.3 million.
Burger, who picked up a couple of wickets (2/65 in 10 overs) in the series-opening clash, ended up with figures of 1/43 in 6.1 overs in the second ODI. He picked up the wicket of former India captain Rohit Sharma, who was dismissed for a brief stay of 14 off 8. Burger had dismissed Rohit on the fifth ball of the fifth over.
