All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been released from India’s squad for the first Test against South Africa. The Andhra cricketer will join the India A squad for the One-day series against South Africa A in Rajkot. The three One-days between India A and South Africa A will take place from 13th to 19th November at the Niranjan Shah Stadium. It is important to note that Reddy will reunite with India's red-ball squad for the second Test, which is set to be hosted at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from 22nd to 26th November, after the conclusion of the 'A' series.
Reddy was a part of India's squad for the two Test matches against the West Indies in October. The 22-year-old was handed the ball only once, as he conceded 16 runs in four overs without picking up a wicket. On the other hand, he scored a 54-ball 43 in the only opportunity he got with the bat.
According to India's assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate, Dhruv Jurel is all but certain to play the first Test against the Proteas, possibly as a specialist batter, after scoring two unbeaten centuries in the second unofficial Test between India A and South Africa A in Bengaluru last week. He scored 175 runs in three innings at an average of 87.5 against the West Indies in Rishabh Pant's absence. The latter was recovering from a foot injury at the time.
Now, with Pant back in the mix, he is expected to don the wicketkeeping gloves, while Jurel could be seen batting in the lower order.
India's updated squad for first Test: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK) (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Devdutt Padikkal, Dhruv Jurel, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep.India A’s updated squad for one-day series: Tilak Varma (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad (VC), Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Ishan Kishan (WK), Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Vipraj Nigam, Manav Suthar, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Khaleel Ahmed, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy.
