India vs South Africa 2nd Test at Guwahati saw a thrilling contest as Ravindra Jadeja delivered a stunning bowling performance on Day 4 to break through South Africa’s stronghold. The match, which started on November 22, 2025, at Guwahati’s Barsapara Cricket Stadium, has been marked by intense moments as the Proteas have built a commanding lead, but Jadeja’s brilliance gave India a crucial breakthrough. The Indian spinner bowled an absolute jaffa to dismiss South Africa opener Aiden Markram, rattling the stumps and invigorating the home side on a challenging pitch.
On the 28.1 over of the innings, Jadeja bowled a spectacular delivery to Markram that will be remembered as a classic moment of the Guwahati Test. Pitching slightly wide of the crease, Jadeja’s ball gripped sharply on a length targeting the middle and leg stump. The ball spun past Markram’s forward defensive stroke and uprooted the off stump at a speed of 92.4 kph, sending the South African opener back to the pavilion after scoring 29 runs off 84 balls with 3 boundaries. This wicket was not just vital for breaking the partnership but also came at a time when both openers were looking solid, with Ryan Rickelton already back after falling to Jadeja earlier.
With this wicket, both South Africa openers were dismissed, leaving the visitors at 74/2 and India breathing slightly easier despite the huge deficit. Jadeja’s bowling figures by that point were impressive with 7.1 overs bowled, 13 runs conceded, and 2 wickets in his spell, showcasing his pivotal role in India’s bowling attack on a tough batting surface.

Despite the breakthrough by Jadeja, South Africa continued to maintain their dominance over India in this second innings. After posting a massive first-innings total of 489 runs, the Proteas resumed their second innings with the confidence of a 288-run lead. With South Africa’s batters showing resilience and composure, Markram and Ryan Rickelton started well, adding a steady 59 runs for the first wicket. Even after the fall of the openers, the middle order largely held firm, ensuring a continuous buildup in their lead against India.
At tea on Day 4, South Africa was at 107/3 with Tristan Stubbs and Tony de Zorzi at the crease, up by 395 runs, effectively putting India under severe pressure. The run rate had accelerated slightly to 2.67, giving the Proteas a solid platform to push for a commanding position in the Test. For India, the persistent efforts of Jadeja and other bowlers offered some hope, but the visitors’ steady accumulation in the second innings kept their series victory aspirations alive.
As Day 4 progressed, South Africa’s cautious yet productive batting continued to build a huge lead, putting India on the back foot. India will need exceptional bowling performances and improved batting in the remaining sessions to stay competitive in this crucial Test of the series.
