India's opening batter KL Rahul faced a painful moment during the second Test against West Indies on October 13 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. India were chasing a modest target of 121 runs to seal the two-match Test series and strengthen their position in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table.
In the fourth innings, Jayden Seales bowled a back-of-a-length delivery with extra carry on the third ball of his over. Rahul, surprised by the bounce, was struck directly around the groin area and fell onto his knees, grimacing in pain. The Indian physio Kamlesh Jain quickly rushed onto the field to assess the injury. The minor setback caused a short delay, but after a breather, the batter returned to the crease, adjusted his protective gear, and resumed batting.
The hosts had earlier won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a commanding total of 518/5d in 134.2 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the charge with a brilliant 175 off 258 balls, while Sai Sudharsan contributed a valuable 87 off 165 deliveries, and skipper Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 129 off 196 balls. For West Indies, Jomel Warrican was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 3/98.
The West Indies struggled in their first innings, being bowled out for 248 in 81.5 overs, and were forced to follow on. Left-handed batter Alick Athanaze top-scored with 41 runs, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja played crucial roles with the ball, picking up five wickets for 82 runs and three wickets for 46 runs, respectively.
In their second innings, the tourists managed to reach 390 all out in 118.5 overs. John Campbell scored a solid 115 off 199 balls, Shai Hope contributed 103 off 214 deliveries, and Justin Greaves remained unbeaten on 50 to take the total to a competitive level. For India, Kuldeep once again shone with a three-for, while Jasprit Bumrah matched him with three wickets for 44 runs, wrapping up the innings.
