Sai Sudharsan recently shared how maintaining calm and composed helped him perform better in the ongoing red-ball game against West Indies in Delhi. Sudharsan could only manage seven in the first Test as compared to 87 in the first innings of the second Test.
The Southpaw emphasized that his composed 87-run knock came as a result of staying calm in the buildup to the game. He also commented on how a good the series against Australia A (two fifties and a hundred in three innings) helped his confidence. He was all praise for skipper Shubman Gill for providing the former with proper role clarity. The Southpaw also praised his skipper's self-confidence as a likeable attribute.
“I was not thinking about the pressure or the magnitude of the game. I was coming off a good India A series, so my focus was only on how I could make the innings better. I tried not to think about anything else, just to stay as calm as possible and not get caught up in the occasion. It was a very composed innings for me. Before the game, I had decided to take a bit more time and let things happen naturally, rather than forcing them," stated Sudharsan while speaking on Amul Cricket Live.
“The role clarity was definitely there from Shubman, and what I admire most about him is his belief, the belief to come back stronger, to convert starts into big hundreds, and to make the team win. When you see him up close, you realize how much conviction he plays with. I feel that’s something I should learn from him, that self-belief is such an important quality to have,” he added.
Sudharsan opens up on batting alongside centurion Jaiswal
India are 318/2 after 90 overs, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (173* off 253) and Gill (20* off 68) unbeaten at the crease. Gill & Co. will aim at building on the foundation and amass a big first innings total before getting a crack with the ball at the opposition.
