The first Test between India and the West Indies began at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 2, 2025. From the outset, India found themselves trailing after West Indies posted a modest first innings total of 162 runs, bowled out in less than two sessions on day one. The Indian innings saw steady progress with solid contributions from KL Rahul and Shubman Gill, setting a platform to assert dominance. However, the highlight on Day 2 was undoubtedly the brilliant batting display by Dhruv Jurel, who smashed his maiden Test century in spectacular fashion, much to the delight of fans in attendance.

Jurel etched his name into the history books by reaching his first Test hundred off 190 balls, a knock consisting of 12 boundaries and 2 sixes. His innings was an exhibition of both grit and elegance, reflecting maturity far beyond his years. Jurel’s century came with a trademark flick shot just past mid-off off a tossed-up delivery around off stump, an exquisite shot that sent the crowd into ecstasy. Displaying strong nerves and composure throughout, he celebrated his milestone by removing his helmet and raising his bat to the skies, followed by a warm embrace with teammate Ravindra Jadeja. This celebration also paid tribute to his army background, an inspiring nod to the sacrifices behind his journey.

The wicketkeeper-batter’s performance was crucial in anchoring the Indian innings, as he built a formidable partnership with Jadeja. Together, they pushed India’s lead to over 230 runs, frustrating the West Indies bowlers with concise strokeplay and remarkable patience. Jurel’s knock placed him in elite company; he became the third Indian wicketkeeper to score a century against the West Indies at home, joining legends MS Dhoni and Farokh Engineer.

India seized control of the match in a commanding display during Day 2. After the early loss of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan, Rahul steadied the innings with a masterful 100 off 197 deliveries, featuring 12 fours. His resilient effort allowed India to surpass the West Indies total and carry considerable momentum into the next sessions. Gill contributed notable support with a composed 50, but it was the partnership between Jurel and Jadeja that truly defined Indian dominance on the day.

The pair’s unbeaten stand took India to above 400 runs during the ongoing third session of Day 2, with Jadeja himself unbeaten on 86 runs off 151 balls, nourishing India’s advantage beyond 230 runs. The partnership added 150 runs, frustrating the West Indies bowling lineup, which included efforts from Jayden Seales, Roston Chase, and others. India maintained a steady scoring rate of 3.34 runs per over, indicating a blend of control and attacking intent.

The West Indies bowling attack, led by spinners Roston Chase and Jomel Warrican alongside pacers like Jayden Seales, struggled to break partnerships or impose pressure during Jurel and Jadeja’s innings. With the new ball taken at 97.1 overs, India continued to dominate proceedings, leaving themselves in a commanding position on Day 2.
