Day 2 of the second Test between India and West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi witnessed a dramatic start. Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had batted with sheer brilliance on the first day, found himself walking back to the pavilion early on Saturday morning after a heartbreaking mix-up with captain Shubman Gill.

Jaiswal, resuming on 173 overnight, looked set for a monumental double century — a feat that would have added another glittering milestone to his rapidly rising career. However, in the second over of the day, disaster struck. On the second delivery of the 92nd over, bowled by Jayden Seales, Jaiswal drove the ball crisply towards mid-off and called for a quick single. Gill, however, showed no interest in the run, leaving Jaiswal stranded halfway down the pitch. Tevin Imlach collected the throw and whipped off the bails in time, ending Jaiswal’s innings at 175.

The young southpaw was visibly distraught, his slow walk back to the pavilion reflecting his disappointment. He could be seen expressing frustration, seemingly reminding Gill that it was his call, before disappearing into the dressing room.

Moments after Jaiswal’s dismissal, fans took to social media to vent their frustration at Gill. Many blamed the Indian skipper for the mix-up, suggesting that better communication between the two could have prevented the dismissal. Several fans tagged Gill and expressed disappointment at what they called a ‘careless’ moment from the captain.

Some fans even argued that Gill’s hesitant running between the wickets has been a recurring issue, while others empathized with Jaiswal, who missed out on a potential double hundred that seemed well within reach.

My hate for Shubman Gill increased after this Runout !He should've said loudly "NO"

Yashasvi misses out a well deserved 200!#INDvWI

Shubman Gill, the insecure fraud and Selfish captain. Yashasvi Jaiswal got run out because of Gill, costing him a well-deserved double hundred.

That was completely Shubman Gill's fault. If he didn't want a run, he could've signalled right after Yashasvi Jaiswal ran for a quick single. But Gill waited till Jaiswal came halfway down the track. Terrible to see this ☹️#INDvWI

You can trust a enemy but you can never trust Shubman Gill as a batsman.

He is one of the jealous person going around.

Yashasvi Jaiswal got out because of Shubman Gill first ge called him and then said him no.

Shubman Gill some how always comes as bad news for Jaiswal.

More deserving position in T20I.

Yashasvi is better test player and unconfirmed Gill somehow becomes Captain

And now this double hundred opportunity lost 😏#indiavsWI #ShubmanGill #Jaiswal #YashasviJaiswal

Meet Shubman Gill,

Recently Replaced Rohit Sharma as ODI captain by failing in knockouts and doing yes sir yes sir to Gautam Gambhir.

Today his insecurities reached a level where he stolen a deserving 200 from Yashasvi Jaiswal by making him runout.

Worst case scenario if any one gets run out in Test Cricket after being scored 175 runs.

He could have scored 300 even 400 the way he was playing, Shubman could have managed the situation better.

This is so sad for Yashasvi , even not able to score 200 runs.#IndvWi #IndvsWi

Despite the unfortunate end to his innings, Jaiswal’s 175 was a masterclass in temperament and stroke play. His performance etched his name into the record books once again. By notching up his fifth score of 150 or more in Test cricket before turning 23, Jaiswal surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record. Only the legendary Don Bradman, with eight such scores before 24, stands above him in this rare list.

Additionally, Jaiswal’s century marked his seventh as a Test opener in the World Test Championship (WTC), placing him second only to Rohit Sharma, who has eight. He also went past Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne and Australia’s Usman Khawaja, both of whom have six WTC hundreds as openers.
