Australia Women (AUS-W) registered a sensational eight-wicket victory in the first ODI of the three-match series against India Women (IND-W) on Sunday. The Indian team is currently 0-1 up in the series, with two more games to be played. Both teams will meet again at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on Wednesday, September 17.
In the first game at the same venue, the home team won the toss and elected to bat first. The Women in Blue managed to post 281/7 in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to contributions from Pratika Rawal (64), Smriti Mandhana (58), Harleen Deol (54), and efforts from the lower-order. For Australia, Megan Schutt was the pick of the bowlers, picking two wickets.
In the chase, Australia reached the target after solid performances from Phoebe Litchfield (88), Beth Mooney (77*), and Annabel Sutherland (54*), respectively.
The surface at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium is known to provide good pace, enabling batters to play their shots with freedom. The relatively short boundaries further add to the potential for a high-scoring encounter. While pacers might find some movement with the new ball, spinners are likely to come into play as the innings progress.
Pratika Rawal, Smriti Mandhana, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur(c), Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh(w), Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Shree Charani, Kranti Goud
Alyssa Healy(w/c), Phoebe Litchfield, Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Annabel Sutherland, Ashleigh Gardner, Tahlia McGrath, Georgia Wareham, Alana King, Kim Garth, Megan Schutt
Australian opener Phoebe Litchfield could be the best batter in the second ODI against the Indian women. The 22-year-old in the first ODI played a sensational knock of 88 runs, which guided her team to a win. In her 80 deliveries, she smashed the opposition bowlers to all parts of the ground and laced her innings with 14 boundaries. In the upcoming game, Litchfield will look to play similarly and guide the Aussies to yet another win.
India's Sneh Rana could be the best bowler in the next game against the visiting Australian team. The right-arm spinner in the last game picked one wicket and leaked 51 runs. However, Harmanpreet Kaur will trust the spinner to exploit the conditions better in the second clash of the series.
